One foot at a time.

What do you consider before putting your shoes on?

The weather, your mood, outfit, comfort or office dress code? Which do you use to decide what to cover your paws?

Most companies have a dress code that usually includes some restrictions on footwear.  My most comfortable choice has always been flip-flops, one of the biggest no-no's in the workplace. It's like bringing the beach to work, very unprofessional and can be very annoying to coworkers. So I take my first choice and pack it in a bag or leave it in may car, because the worst thing for me is to enclose my toes all day and then drive home in work shoes. Instead I chose conservative flats or walking shoes.

Is the workplace really a place to have a fashion show for shoes? Do the shoes you wear to work affect the quality of the work? I know that if my toes and heels are comfy, even though it contributes to my overall comfort, it does not affect the quality of my work. It is the same for others? Do the shoes I wear to work give upper management an opinion about my work ethic? Does upper management even notice the shoes of those that they are not interacting with on a day to day basis? Who walks around the office looking at everyone's feet?

I find that if you follow the main rules of the dress code (i.e. no flashy athletic shoes, thongs, flip-flops, slippers, and as well as making sure that shoes aren't run down and torn) that most companies are willing to let employees be creative with their shoes.

I say keep the fashion to a minimum, save it for after 5 o'clock.

I took this poll below, found the results very interesting. Which side do you flip or flop on?
